Ok so I started working on a redesign, at least for the header (which is the same everywhere).
You can see it here : http://otherweb.org/ArchServer/
I'm not sure I wish to keep the link organised as they are now, but it's a usability question, and I'll think about that at a later stage. Currently I would like to discuss only the "style" part. Do you "like" ? Do you think it feels to old/modern bloated/minimalistic etc ?

Even though I do work for an eCommerce Company, I am not too much into web-design stuff. There are just two websites, the ones I do find useful and the ones I don't ;-)
I do like the posted style. I discussed already with faelar, to probbably increase the size of our Logo (the /\-part of it) to emphazize it a little more. I also do like, that this design sticks to the green/black rule, we have in our logo as well.
Furthermore, to have some more screen estate available, we could probably move the submenu-line (Index, User list, Rules, ...) a little bit closer to the menu itself, or do it like on the freebsd-page as a "normal" menu (see http://www.freebsd.org/.
What I do like about the freebsd side, and what I would like to see in our own page as well, is the centration of the whole site.
What do you think, what are your thoughts on this one?
Faelar thanks for getting us started ;-)

I quite like it too, although I think it needs to be made shorter vertically to maximise our the available real-estate.
As triplem mentioned, I also like the 'centered' style of the FreeBSD website, and also the colored background across the whole header.
I love the search input box though ![]()
Could it "snake" around like this:
(Yes, that just a quick hack in GIMP

Nice job, it is really clean and feels more modern. I approve of these changes even though it is a step away from the ArchLinux website layout and design and I get the feeling of loosing the nostalgia(the whole 4 month of it since I started using ArchLinux) which I hold dear.

I do like the search box as well. But what are we going to search with it? Searching the whole site would be really nice, but probably hard to implement because of the different apps we are using.

a) Utilize Google to search all sub-sites; or
b) Implement each sub-sites Search feature to this box (eg, bug tracker, wiki, APP etc). I think each sub-site does have it's own search functionality.
I'm in favour of b) personally.
EDIT: If anyone wants access to the dev site where you can hack away with CMS Made Simple, let me know and I'll make u an account.

Me too, but i think that this could be tricky on e.g. mediawiki.

There is not so much "wasted" space. If you look at AL website and to my current templace side by side, you'll see that our content should be at the same level (with a delta of 5px) in both.

Yes it is. I see it as an opportunity to improve things, but I keep in mind where we come from. I try to stay simple, that's why I'm not really attracted by things like a background color at the top of the site. A menu bar, a few boxes, and a clean white background, that's what I would like to do for AS ![]()

It can be changed, for example I can put the quick login form for the forum. Something we can do is to copy the ubuntu-fr.org website (top right) : you select which part of the site you target for your search.
Anyway, this is NOT an stylish problem so we will keep it aside from this topic for now please.
EDIT : Done [link removed]

Ok link updated : http://otherweb.org/ArchServer/
The logo is bigger on this version but not as huge as the current one.
I also added a favicon. It is less pixelized than the one on the website, so fukawi2 you can take it and put it here if you'd like to ![]()

Is nice ![]()
Not sure how to deal with the secondary navigation links though.... They look a bit strange out the on their own at the moment.

Easier said than done... The current is an ICO file, but yours is PNG, so I'll have to change everything to point to the PNG instead of the ICO in the HTML header ![]()

Hi everybody !
I made some progress on the forum side. FluxBB default theme is quite messy, but I eventually managed to do something nice. A picture worth more than a thousand words, so here we are : more than three thousand words ![]()
Screen 1, Screen 2, Screen 3
There are some things which need to be fixed but I would like to ear your opinion of it.
