Questionable package inclusion on installation iso.

Howdy folks, I've been browsing through the packages avail on teh 2010.03 iso, and there's a few that I'd like to get some input on. I've broken them out into 3 groups based on their purpose. In the next day or so, I'll expand on the questions that I have about these. But I'd like to go ahead and get their names up and listed in the mean time. Some of them seem out of place on the install CD, and a few seem out of place in this distro overall.

Re: Questionable package inclusion on installation iso.

Hi, and welcome to the forums smile

The ISO that is available at the moment is still considered to be in an alpha stage at the moment -- mainly because of this issue. The way the ISO is created, it takes an entire repository and dumps those packages in to the ISO. Since all our packages are still in [testing] at present, this means all packages are being included.

Once we get sign-off happening and packages moved over to their proper repo, then the packages on the installation ISO will be cut right back since it will only be taking the packages from [server-core]

Re: Questionable package inclusion on installation iso.

I understand the status of the ISO. That's why I figured this is a good time to bring up these packages ;D

I don't think your explanation of an entire repo being dumped to the ISO is 100% correct.
[testing] has had amanda and apache since December, neither of these exist in /src/core/pkg. This is also true of (but not the 'since December' part) bc, cups, dovecot-sqlite, and probably others past the "d" packages.

Re: Questionable package inclusion on installation iso.

Hello pierce.jason,

thanks for reporting these issues. There are some dependencies missing in our repository:

for amanda gnuplot is missing,
cups is missing openslp,
dovecot-sqlite is missing sqlite

Apache and bc dependencies seem to be resolved.

We will go ahead and put these dependencies into the repos as well.

What are your other questions concerning the already mentioned packages on our iso?

Re: Questionable package inclusion on installation iso.

cups also has an unresolved dependency on xdg-utils. In fact there are 37 missing or wrong version depss. with cups.

This is the kind of feedback and info we need, thanks big_smile

Could you report it as a bug on the bug tracker if you haven't already? (Apologies if you have, just got back from a long weekend helping parents move house, so catching up on everything!)

Re: Questionable package inclusion on installation iso.

Hello,

I have compiled cups now on our system, so all dependencies should be resolved. I have stripped some dependencies (especially e.g. gt and gtk for poppler) and hope, that cups is still working correctly. Please test.
